Local Ambassador Spotlight: Shanley of Eat it Kansas City

We are so excited to feature our first city ambassador, Shanley of the blog Eat it Kansas City! Shanley is an incredible food blogger, so it's only natural her tour of Kansas City revolves around her favorite delicious spots. When Shanley's not blogging she can be found as a copywriter, eating her way through town & hanging our with other KC blogger meet up bloggers. She'll be covering local events, sharing a few of her favorite Kansas City hot spots & more in the coming months!

A Weekend Guide to Kansas City

If you’re searching for the perfect two-day getaway, look no further than Kansas City. Its bi-state metropolis offers some of the best dining, drinking and shopping destinations in the Midwest. In fact, there are so many fabulous things to see and do I’ve narrowed down a few of my local favorites in case you need some guidance.

Magnolia’s
2932 Cherry St.
Kansas City, MO

Fuel your weekend festivities with brunch at Magnolia’s, a charming bistro-style restaurant near downtown Kansas City. Magnolia’s specializes in Southern comfort cuisine and their signature Red Velvet Waffles are the epitome of feel good food. The crimson colored cakes are dusted with cocoa powder, drizzled with cream cheese glaze and adorned with fresh berries. If you’re not already rolling on the floor in red velvet delight, the sides are equally delicious and include sweet potato hash, grit cakes and smoked pepper bacon.

Bella Patina
1324 W. 12th St.
Kansas City, MO
Walk off your brunch belly in the West Bottoms with some serious vintage shopping at Bella Patina. The shop’s three floors hold 25,000 square feet of décor and furniture – from shabby chic to retro style finds. Bella Patina is open every first weekend of the month as part of the West Bottoms “Warehouse Weekends” where thousands of people come to shop Kansas City’s best vintage and antique shops.

If you work up an appetite, Bella Patina has dozens of local vendors that serve gourmet ice creams, cocktails and chocolates in addition to their own restaurant, Vintage Eats and Sweets, located on the third floor.

Rye
10551 Mission Rd.
Leawood, KS

Kansas City is known for serving up some of the best barbecue in the world – and you’ll find plenty of local spots that do it deliciously. But what I love about one of my favorite restaurants, Rye, is they serve Kansas City-style barbecue with a refined flair. In addition to their beautiful Mission Farms location with scenic patio views, Rye puts a unique focus into their menu. The restaurant maintains its own herb and vegetable garden and chefs infuse locally sourced ingredients into each dish. You can literally taste the freshness.

My favorite meal at Rye is the pulled pork sandwich smothered in homemade barbecue sauce and topped with creamy coleslaw (made with their own garden-grown herbs). I suggest grabbing a seat on Rye’s patio so you can enjoy your meal and the amazing views overlooking their garden and a nearby pond.

Remedy Food + Drink
500 W. 75th St.
Kansas City, MO

Top off the weekend with cocktails at Remedy Food + Drink in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood. Their bar offers an array of local craft beers, wine and unique handmade drinks made by some of the city’s best cocktail experts in town. A perfect drink for a night out with the ladies is the “Gossip Girl” made with gin, prickly pear syrup, lemon juice and sparkling wine. It’s pretty, pink and potent – a winning combination when you’re sharing a drink with your best gals.

These are just a few of the fantastic spots the city has to offer. If you’re looking for more information about Kansas City’s best places, I give the local dish on blog, Eat it Kansas City.  http://eatitkansascity.com
